CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA CANDIDATE
COURTENAY-ALBERNI

My name is Byron Horner and I am seeking to become the Conservative Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni.  Although the Federal election is not until October 21, 2019 I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as a Conservative with deep Island roots.

I was born, raised and educated on Vancouver Island and my career in business gives me practical experience and perspective on how the federal government can create the conditions for innovation and prosperity in our communities.   My wife Nicole and I are proud parents of Wesley 13 and Cyrus 11 and have a home in Parksville.

I have a long-standing family connection to the Conservative Party of Canada. My grandfather was a Conservative Senator and three of my uncles were Conservative MP’s.

After graduating from high school on Vancouver Island I represented the Island as a Page in the House of Commons during the Mulroney government and worked for a Conservative MP while completing a political science degree at Carleton University. My time in Ottawa gave me the opportunity to become fluent in French and nourished a lifelong interest in public service.

The Trudeau Liberal government continues to disappoint Canadians at home and abroad and the NDP MPs from Vancouver Island have been ineffective and will never form a federal government. The needs of our communities are not being met.  The Conservative Party is the only party that can elect an MP in Courtenay-Alberni and form a government in Ottawa.
If you would like to have a conversation about the issues that are important to you and your family please contact me.  I would be honoured to represent you.

If nominated, I will immediately take a leave of absence from work to concentrate all my efforts on winning the riding in the October 2019 federal election.

WHERE I STAND

The Trudeau Liberals’ budget deficits, new taxes that punish small business and flawed negotiating strategy on NAFTA threatens our future prosperity, will lead to higher taxes and will burden future generations with debt.

To ensure we can invest in programs that we need, protect the vulnerable and make life more affordable for Canadians I am committed to balanced budgets. As a businessman and financial executive, I have the technical skills and experience to take action and control government spending.

The Trudeau Liberal government continues to break the election promises it made to Canadians and ignore Vancouver Island.

The NDP has never formed a government in Ottawa and the needs of Vancouver Island cannot be met by NDP MP’s.

The Conservative Party is the only party that can elect a MP in Courtenay-Alberni and form a government in Ottawa.  Islanders need to make their vote count by voting Conservative and having Conservative MPs in government.

If I have the honour of being elected, I will ensure that Courtenay-Alberni’s needs are top of mind in Ottawa:

  • Investing in Infrastructure (Island roads, airports, the Port Alberni port, CFB Comox and DND Nanoose Bay)
  • Developing national and international markets for Island products and services including value-added forest products, seafood, agriculture and tourism.
  • Promoting technology training and innovation
  • Ensuring the health and care needs of our communities are being met, including a national strategy to attract physicians to Canada

Like you, I care about our natural environment

I believe Courtenay-Alberni is the most beautiful riding in Canada. We can promote our natural resources sector and our communities that depend on it while protecting the integrity of our environment. Working with three First Nation communities I am proud to be Executive Producer on the team bringing the natural wonders of BC’s Great Bear Rainforest to IMAX theatres in Canada and worldwide in the Spring of 2019.

Please watch the trailer for our film and let me know what you think!

AS A PROUD CONSERVATIVE I BELIEVE IN:

Providing opportunities for free enterprise and job creation through a robust economy.

Supporting families and honouring and caring for seniors, veterans and those in need.

Promoting our natural resource sector and the communities that depend on it while protecting the integrity of our environment.

Preparing our children and grandchildren for lifelong prosperity.
